1 Short title, commencement and extent

PART I : PRELIMINARY

1. SHORT TITLE, COMMENCEMENT AND EXTENT

(1) This Act may be called the Companies Act, 1956.

(2) It shall come into force on such date as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint.

(3) It extends to the whole of India :

Provided that it shall apply to the State of Nagaland subject to such modifications, if any, as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, specify.
